Stress Relief: 12 Ways to Chill Out and Relax

Take time to chill out and relax

Stress can destroy your productivity and make your life miserable. Though it may seem unfixable, there are a number of ways that can help you change your mindset and avoid stress setbacks. These 12 tips will help you chill out and relax.

1. Organize Your Time

It’s easy to let work or your studies take over your life. Divide your day into periods when you’re working and those when you’re doing other things.

2. Take Regular Breaks

Taking regular breaks can improve your productivity. Just a few minutes away from your desk every hour can refresh your mind and help you focus better.

3. Get Up

Sitting for long periods of time can be harmful to your health. Take a brief walk every couple of hours to get your blood flowing. Need another reason to get off your seat? Eliminate your seat entirely and use a standing desk to keep your body and mind happy.

4. Meditate

Just 25 minutes of mindfulness meditation a day can reduce stress. The benefits of meditation kick in after as little as three days.

5. Exercise

Exercise is important for both physical and mental health. Aerobic exercises, such as jogging, cycling, or walking can decrease anxiety and improve mood.

6. Do Yoga

Yoga is a type of exercise that stretches your muscles and helps you relax. Vinyasa yoga involves slowly and carefully moving through poses to refocus your mind.

7. Sleep Well

Lack of sleep will leave you feeling tired, rundown, and stressed. Aim to get eight hours of sleep a night to let your body fully regenerate before starting up again.

8. Take Naps

Napping for just 20 minutes in the afternoon can give you more energy to face the rest of the day.

9. Eat Right

Eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables will help you keep your mind and body healthy. Avoid sugar, which can actually worsen anxiety.

10. Limit Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant that can cause anxiety and make it difficult for you to get to sleep at night. Replace coffee and energy drinks with herbal tea or water.

11. Spend Time With Friends

No matter how busy you are, you need social contact. Spending time with friends can help take your mind off work, reduce your stress level, and exercise a social part of your brain that might not get much attention in the workplace.

12. Get Away For a Weekend

Getting away from the causes of your stress, no matter how briefly, can dramatically reduce stress levels. Try a change of location and pace if you need to chill out.
