Health Career

You love to help people. You are interested in the science of the human body. And you believe in the value of a healthy lifestyle. If these traits describe you, then you ought to consider a career in the health industry.

According to a 2012 survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, some healthcare professionals, such as medical and health service managers and healthcare administrators, had approximate median salaries of $88,000. The Bureau of Labor Statistics pointed out that the average growth rate for all occupations is approximately 11 percent. Your income can vary widely depending on which area you decide to pursue. Fitness instructors may be on the lower side of the spectrum, while wellness directors typically have higher average salaries.

There are many career opportunities available in the health and wellness field. You may choose to seek one of many different kinds of certifications. A few examples of the certifications that you may pursue are Certified Wellness Practitioner, Certified Worksite Wellness Specialist, Certified Health Coach, or Certified Personal Trainer. You can also work in the health and wellness field without a certification as a wellness consultant, wellness director, or health counselor.

As a health and wellness professional, you might work in a hospital or doctors’ offices, fitness centers, wellness clinics, corporate wellness departments, schools or universities, or even weight loss centers. Health and wellness professionals are often responsible for promoting healthy lifestyle habits and behaviors, providing health counseling, helping individuals with behavior change, and designing programs that focus on diet, exercise, stress, or weight management.

Therefore, if you enjoy working with people and motivating them to make healthy lifestyle choices, you should consider a profession in the health and wellness field.
